Our Story

A JOURNEY OF PURPOSE, PURITY AND EMPOWERMENT

I am a proud Karerien, born and raised in Karer, Eastern Anatolia. Although I have spent much of my adult life in London, UK, my roots have always remained deeply connected to the land and people of my homeland.

Seven years ago, I returned to Karer and was deeply moved by what I witnessed. Poverty was widespread, and vast areas of fertile land had been left unattended. The region's harsh climate, with its exceptionally long and bitterly cold winters, had made agricultural life increasingly difficult. Many families had been forced to abandon their land and migrate to the outskirts of major cities, often facing hardship and uncertainty.

That visit changed everything for me.

I decided to introduce lavender farming to the region as a way of tackling poverty, helping families achieve financial independence, creating employment opportunities and bringing abandoned agricultural land back to life.

Despite countless unanswered questions, doubts and considerable uncertainty, I took the first step and established the first lavender field in Karer in 2016, in the Eastern Anatolian highlands, at an altitude of 2,000 metres (6,561 ft) above sea level.

Surrounded by volcanic mountains and glacial lakes, the region offers an extraordinary natural environment. Situated close to the Bingöl Mountains, where snow remains for much of the year and winter temperatures can fall to −20°C, it is an exceptionally challenging place to cultivate lavender.

The first two years were disastrous. There were countless setbacks, failures and moments when giving up seemed the easiest option. However, after six years of determination, patience and perseverance, the project finally began to flourish.

What started as one woman's vision gradually developed into something much bigger: a unique agricultural and social empowerment initiative.

Today, we work closely with vulnerable women affected by poverty, discrimination and violence. We support them in establishing their own lavender fields and provide them with lavender cuttings to help them begin their journey towards financial independence.

We are incredibly proud that the women involved in our initiative are now harvesting lavender from their own fields. Their numbers continue to grow, and with every new field, we take another step towards a more sustainable and hopeful future.
